Starbank School in Birmingham joins Star Academies family

Starbank School in Birmingham has converted to an academy and joined Star Academies following six months of close working between governors, parents and senior leaders at the school.

Starbank School is a 2,160 place all-through school with nursery, primary and secondary provision for pupils aged from 3 to 16.

The conversion to Star Academies heralds a new chapter in the school’s history, which will see the school benefit from a collaboration with one of the country’s leading Multi Academy Trusts (MAT).

Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, said:

“Throughout the conversion process we have worked to establish a positive relationship with all the key stakeholders at the school and have taken into account the views of pupils, parents, staff and governors. The Star team brings a wealth of expertise to Starbank School. Our approach is a collaborative one and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work with the entire school community to create opportunities for improved outcomes for all Starbank School pupils. This conversion signifies a fresh start for the school. We are committed to ensuring that pupils receive the very best in terms of educational opportunities and that staff feel able to carry out their duties in a safe and supportive environment. I genuinely believe that Starbank School will continue to make progress and we are delighted to be alongside them on that journey.”

Gaetano Ferrante, Headteacher at Starbank, said:

“We have been working closely with Star Academies and our school’s stakeholders over the last six months to formulate plans for Starbank School’s long-term success. We are very excited to join Star Academies and we have already begun to reap the considerable benefits from having ready access to the expertise, approaches and support that have enabled Star to deliver outstanding results elsewhere in the country. I am confident that our continued collaboration will help to improve outcomes for our pupils and that, to me, is the most important goal.”

Starbank School is based across three sites close to the boundaries of the Bordesley Green, Small Heath and Yardley areas of Birmingham. The conversion of Starbank School strengthens Star’s presence in Birmingham, where the Trust already runs four secondary and two primary schools.

The leaders of the school’s three primary sites, Nadim Riaz, Navdeep Malhi and Hajra Rifat, are looking forward to the school’s bright future with Star Academies: “We are delighted for our primary school community. Joining the Star family will continue to provide stability and further strengthen our foundations for long-term success. We look forward to the journey as it brings new learning, new opportunities, and the very best education for all our pupils.”
