Star welcomes two new schools to its growing family

Secondary schools in Salford and Rossendale are the latest to join Star Academies’ growing national network of primary and secondary schools. Its latest expansion extends the trust’s presence in Lancashire and Greater Manchester, and increases the number of Star schools nationally to 33 across five Star Partnership areas.

Star Salford Academy welcomes its first cohort of 150 Year 7 pupils this September. The new purpose-built secondary school, which has recently been completed under the government’s free schools programme, provides pupils with access to outstanding facilities and resources in a state-of-the-art environment that is tailored to ensuring every child is able to achieve their very best outcome. The 750-place school for 11-16 year olds will admit a new Year 7 intake each year for the next five years, when the school will reach full capacity. Star Salford Academy becomes the 7th school in Star’s Greater Manchester partnership.

Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS) in Waterfoot, Rossendale has joined Star Academies following an extensive consultation process with governors, parents and senior leaders at the school. BRGS is a 1,260 place secondary school and sixth form with an illustrious 300-year history. The transfer to Star Academies heralds a new chapter in the school’s history, which will see the school benefit from a collaboration with one of the country’s leading multi-academy trusts. As part of the Star family, BRGS will retain its grammar school status as it looks to strengthen its education provision, broaden opportunities for its pupils and transform outcomes. BRGS is the 9th school in Star’s Lancashire cluster.

Sir Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School and Star Salford Academy to the Star Academies family. At Star, we continually strive to innovate to break new ground and unlock new opportunities for young people. Today marks two firsts for Star, as we welcome the first grammar school into the trust and open our first school in Salford.

We are excited at the prospect of working collaboratively with the staff, pupils and families at Star Salford Academy and BRGS to provide a high-quality education and the very best opportunities for young people in these communities.”
