Star pupils light the way with outstanding GCSE results

Across the country, thousands of pupils in Star schools are celebrating after achieving outstanding GCSE results. This year’s cohort of Year 11 pupils have demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience to overcome several years of disruption to excel in this year’s GCSE and BTec assessments.

Exams were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic and pupils’ grades were based on teachers’ assessments. England’s exams watchdog, Ofqual, set out a two-year plan to bring A level and GCSE results back down to pre-pandemic levels. Last year was the first time students sat exams since the start of the pandemic, and they were graded more leniently to reflect the disruption to pupils’ education. For the first time since 2019, exams were marked and graded in the normal way this summer. Despite these challenges, Star pupils have overcome adversity to secure strong academic outcomes as they progress to the next stage of their education or training.

Sir Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, said:

“Today is about our young people overcoming adversity and each and every one of them going on to realise their value and achieve their dreams. We are delighted that the results they have received today mark another milestone on their journey towards that wonderful future.

“I also want to thank our fantastic teachers, leaders and support staff, and praise the support of parents and carers, for all they have done to nurture and inspire our young people throughout their education. They have bright futures ahead of them and I look forward to hearing about their accomplishments over years to come.”

Throughout the day, we have showcased our pupils’ successes on Twitter/X and we are proud to share some of their achievements below.
