Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest retains its ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating

Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest is celebrating after the secondary school was once again rated as ‘outstanding’ in a recent Ofsted inspection.

The report, published by Ofsted this week, follows a section 8 inspection at the school on 27 and 28 September 2022. A section 8 visit typically occurs within four years of an ‘outstanding’ rating, which the school received in April 2017, to check on its progress.

Ofsted inspectors confirmed Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest continues to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas in the recent visit, with no areas for improvement.

The report highlights many of the positive aspects of the school, noting that ‘exceptionally high aspirations are the norm here,’ and that ‘leaders ensure that all pupils, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, thrive academically and achieve highly.’

As well as praise for staff, pupils were also commended for their commitment to learning and development and the opportunities created for them by leaders. The report highlights that ‘pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. Classrooms are calm and purposeful,’ adding that ‘leaders work hard to encourage pupils to become confident and well-educated members of society.’

A caring and compassionate environment has been cultivated at the school, according to the report, with inspectors finding that ‘many [pupils] described the school as being like a family, and that ‘pupils feel happy and safe at school.’

The report went on to say: ‘Being compassionate is a thread that runs through school life, and pupils regularly organise fund-raising events for charity.’

Other highlights from the Ofsted report include:

  • ‘Pupils succeed academically and are well prepared for life beyond school.’
  • ‘Pupils are highly positive about their learning and wider school life.’
  • ‘Leaders provide an exceptionally high-quality provision at this school.’
  • ‘The school environment is safe and nurturing. Teachers and pupils interact very positively. Pupils attend well and arrive punctually.’
  • ‘Pupils are taught how to lead.’
  • ‘Staff said that leaders are considerate of their well-being and workload.’
  • ‘Leaders provide high-quality guidance and professional development to staff.’
  • ‘Teachers are knowledgeable and highly skilled at ensuring that all pupils make excellent progress through the curriculum’
  • ‘Teachers identify and understand the needs of their pupils well, including those with SEND.’
  • ‘The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.’

Aamena Mayet, Principal at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest, said:

“It has filled us all with immense pride that this school continues to be outstanding. We have worked incredibly hard to maintain standards and pursue an ambitious vision for all pupils.

“With so many positive aspects within the report, it was most heart-warming to read that so many pupils consider themselves to be part of a family here at Eden Girls. That is exactly the type of welcoming and nurturing environment we want to create, allowing our young women to flourish.

“Thank you to our wonderful staff who are just as inspiring as the pupils they teach; this outcome would not be possible without their unwavering commitment, along with the support of our parents, carers and governors.”
