Celebrations for Eden Girls’ School, Coventry as it retains ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating

The whole school community is celebrating after Eden Girls’ School, Coventry was once again rated as ‘outstanding’ in a recent Ofsted inspection. 

The report, published by Ofsted this week, follows an inspection at the school on 23 and 24 May. It was the school’s second Ofsted inspection, with its last visit taking place in 2017. 

Ofsted inspectors confirmed Eden Girls’ School, Coventry continues to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas in the recent visit, with no areas for improvement.  

‘Pupils thrive and excel in this inclusive school’, according to the report which lavishes praise on the secondary school and highlights many positive aspects of pupils’ experiences and outcomes. 

Amongst the praise, pupils are commended for their behaviour and quality of work. The report emphasises that pupils are ‘respectful, courteous and friendly’ and that their ‘behaviour in lessons and social times is excellent.’ Inspectors also witnessed that ‘pupils engage effortlessly during lessons. Their work is impeccable.’ 

As well as achieving academically, the school has also been lauded for its wide-ranging initiatives to support pupils’ personal development and leadership skills. The report notes: ‘Pupils actively engage in charity and local community work by providing foodbanks for local people. This contributes to pupils becoming active citizens in the community’. 

A culture of excellence has been cultivated at the school, according to the report, with inspectors finding that leaders are ‘extremely ambitious and aspirational for pupils they serve. Their high standards and high expectations permeate through all that do.’ Staff also reported that they feel supported by senior leaders: ‘Staff appreciate the engagement from leaders to manage their work life balance and support their wellbeing.’ 

The report goes on to say that ‘teachers are experts in the subjects they teach. Staff know their pupils extremely well’ and that ‘the collaboration between parents, the SEND team, external agencies and pupils is purposeful.’  

Other highlights from the Ofsted report include: 

  • ‘Leaders have embedded an exemplary curriculum to ensure that pupils receive a high quality education.’  
  • ‘All pupils achieve exceptionally well. This includes the most disadvantaged and pupils with SEND.’  
  • ‘The atmosphere in lessons is engaging, calm and orderly. Pupils are self regulated and calm’  
  • ‘All pupils including those with special educational needs and/disabilities (SEND) benefit from extensive opportunities on offer.’ 
  • ‘Leaders work to ensure that pupils, staff and parents buy in to their vision of nurturing today’s young people, inspiring tomorrow’s leaders is successful.’ 
  • ‘The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.’ 
  • ‘Pupils are well prepared to make informed and ambitious decisions for their next steps in education, training and employment.’ 
  • ‘There are many opportunities for pupils to read widely and often, for example, ‘read aloud’ during form time where the tutor reads to the pupils.’
