TIGHS tops the tables
Students and staff at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College (TIGHS) in Blackburn are celebrating the publication of the Government’s 2015 school league tables. Once again, TIGHS has been confirmed as one of the highest achieving schools in the country.
94% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C with English and Maths. 73% achieved the English Baccalaureate – the 6th best performance nationally and 50 percentage points higher than the national average.
The league tables also confirmed that Tauheedul is ranked second in the country for results by students with low prior achievement at primary school. 81% of students with low prior achievement achieved 5A*-Cs with English and Maths at Tauheedul. Nationally, only 6% of students achieve this result.
The Government figures also confirmed that TIGHS is one of the best schools in the country for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, those living in low-income households or who are in Local Authority care. 96% of TIGHS’ students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieved 5A*-Cs with English and Maths. Nationally, fewer than two-fifths of students from similar backgrounds achieve this result.
