TIGHS delivers world class outcomes

TIGHS, the flagship school of Star Academies, has been identified by educational experts as the third highest performing school in the country for Key Stage 4 attainment, and the second best school in the country for Key Stage 4 progress.

CentreForum, an independent, charitable organisation that undertakes evidence-based research to help shape and influence Government policy, released their findings after assessing schools’ attainment across a variety of key educational measures. Their latest report, authored by three former DfE employees, a Cambridge analyst and a teacher, contained league tables ranking schools on their ability to provide outstanding educational outcomes for children and young people.

Last year, 91% of students at TIGHS achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C with English and maths and 74% achieved the English Baccalaureate. The school was praised for offering its pupils a “value added” education, securing excellent results for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with low prior achievement at primary school. This culminated in TIGHS receiving national recognition from the Schools, Students and Teachers network (SSAT) for their innovative teaching methods and continued success in improving educational outcomes.

Nationally, only around 7% of pupils with low prior achievement attain 5 A*-C grades including English and maths, whereas 58% of TIGHS’ pupils reached this benchmark. 85% of TIGHS pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds also succeeded in achieving 5 A*-C grades with English and maths, compared to a third nationally.

Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies said, “We are delighted to see the efforts of students and staff at TIGHS recognised in CentreForum’s research and we are committed to building on TIGHS’ success in our other schools. Our educational models have been meticulously designed to maximise outcomes for all of our pupils, regardless of prior achievement, and we will continue to encourage them to fulfil their potential through our emphasis on high expectations, outstanding teaching and a broad and balanced curriculum.”
