Star selected as preferred sponsor for 3 Bradford academies

Star Academies (Star) has been identified by the Department for Education as the preferred sponsor for three Bradford primary schools: High Crags Academy, Barkerend Academy and Thornbury Academy.   The three academies were previously sponsored by the Wakefield City Academies Trust.

The Trust’s success has seen it selected by the Government to sponsor schools across the country, with clusters in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, London and West Yorkshire.  It already sponsors two schools in Bradford: Laisterdyke Leadership Academy and Tong Leadership Academy.

Commenting on the Department for Education’s decision, the Trust’s Chief Executive, Hamid Patel CBE said:

“We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred sponsor for these three academies.   We are looking forward to working closely with pupils, parents, staff and governors at the schools to build on the progress already achieved with the Wakefield City Academies Trust.   Our shared ambition will be to provide the very best education possible for every child attending the schools.”

There will now be an opportunity for interested parties to share their views before the final decision about the sponsor is taken by the Regional Schools Commissioner.
