Star Academies staff bake-off in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support
Star Academies staff have been baking up a storm with a special lockdown coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Staff from Star Academies’ central services took part in a virtual coffee morning event on Friday, September 25.
Participants shared images of their special bakes via a live streamed event which raised more than £100 to help people affected by cancer.
Jennifer Turner, who works in the HR team, said:
“I’ve had so much fun trying out a new recipe and catching up with people I haven’t spoken to for a while due to the lockdown. It’s been really nice to join together and do something good for a great cause.”
Cakes are Victoria Sponge, a healthy avocado cheesecake and vegan sweet potato brownies.
Virtual coffee mornings were also celebrated at many of Star Academies’ schools nationwide, from Lancashire to London. In total, schools and Star Central raised more than £9,000 for the charity.
The Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser is just one of many charitable initiatives that take place each year at Star Academies. During the national COVID-19 lockdown, Star Academies launched its Star Coronavirus Appeal to support vulnerable members of its communities and frontline workers. Star distributed more than £350,000 worth of food and hygiene products through its national network of Star Family Hubs, which were established at its schools.
