Star Academies raises thousands for good causes
More than 15,000 pupils across the country took part in an ambitious fundraising programme that raised thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes.
The pupils, who attend one of the 28 schools run by the Blackburn based multi-academy trust Star Academies, along with staff at its schools and head office raised the funds as part of the trust’s Festive Winter Gift Programme.
This year, the annual initiative raised in excess of £50,000 for charities as well as giving companionship to more vulnerable members of the community.
More than 80 charities were supported, which included children’s hospitals and charities, homeless charities, women’s refuges, hospices, emergency services workers and foodbanks.
Generous pupils and parents also helped to spread festive goodwill by donating more than 2,000 gifts to help ensure that everyone had something to celebrate during the festive season.
As part of the programme, pupils also befriended members of the local community by visiting 20 care homes where they held concerts and read books to residents. Seven schools also hosted a community lunch where vulnerable local people were invited into the school to dine and socialise with pupils and staff. The care home visits proved so popular with residents and pupils that the schools will be continuing these visits throughout the year.
Mufti Hamid Patel CBE, Chief Executive of Star Academies, praised pupils and staff for their efforts. He said:
“This is a wonderful effort by our pupils, staff and parents at Star Academies and demonstrates their genuine desire to help people in need. I am absolutely delighted by the incredible impact our pupils have made on their local community and everyone who took part should be very proud of this achievement. Across the country, our pupils were tasked with organising a broad programme of activities and the success of those activities demonstrates our pupils’ creativity and leadership abilities. At Star Academies we pride ourselves on making a positive difference to society, as our schools are an integral part of their community and we are committed to playing an active role and helping others. We now hope to build on the success of the Festive Winter Gift Programme and help even more people next year.”
The Festive Winter Gift Programme links to each of our STAR values – Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect – and enables our pupils to experience first-hand the positive impact of helping those less fortunate, as well as developing valuable leadership and planning skills.
