New teachers to get early career support
A new development programme for teachers at the start of their career has been launched by Star Institute, in partnership with Blackpool teaching schools. The programme is funded by the Blackpool Opportunity Area which aims to improve attainment and progress in Blackpool schools. This is part of a wider project; Teach Blackpool. The ultimate objective of the Teach Blackpool project is to recruit and retain high quality teachers in Blackpool to improve attainment and progress in Blackpool schools.
Leading education learning and development organisation Star Institute will be working with around 20 schools across Blackpool, including Fylde Coast Academy Trust schools. Through the programme, Star Institute will support schools to ensure teachers who have joined in September, or joined teaching in the last three years, are accessing the training they need for their development. The programme will also offer networking events for Early Career Teachers to provide support through expert and teacher ambassadors, along with providing them with the opportunity to form strong peer networks. Funding will be available for each school that is part of the programme for up to two days of teaching cover to ensure the Early Career Teachers are able to fully engage with the programme without adding to workload.
This funded project aligns with the new Early Career Framework (ECF), published by the DfE as part of the Recruitment and Retention Strategy. Part of their commitment is to increase support for Early Career Teachers (ECTs). The ECF underpins an entitlement to a fully-funded, two-year package of structured training and support for early career teachers. Once rolled out nationally, early career teachers will experience improved support across their first two years of teaching,

The full Teach Blackpool support programme also includes expert coaching, delivered by Ambition Institute, and training for middle and senior leaders to be effective coaches, delivered by the Prince’s Teaching Institute.
